Melbourne: The hopes of an Indian winning the title in the Australian Open took a severe blow when Sania Mirza and Elena Vesnina lost to the Russian pair of Svetlana Kuznetsova and Vera Zvonareva 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 in the semifinal.
The match that lasted for 2 hours and 33 minutes saw both pairs striving hard to win the match. The Indo-Russian pair did well after losing the first set and came back strong to win the second set very convincingly.
At the end of the day it was the number of unforced error that cost Mirza and Vesnina the match as they had more than double the number of errors made by their opponents.
