Fenesta Open: Andrita ousts fourth seed Dhruti

New Delhi: It was curtains for fourth seed Dhruti Venugopal, who squandered a one-set lead to go down to Andrita Deb in the under-16 girls singles at the Fenesta Open National Tennis Championship for Juniors on Wednesday.
Andrita caused a major upset and despite losing the first set tamely, she came back to oust the Karnataka girl 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 and made it to the quarter-finals.


There were no more surprises on the day as top seeds sailed into the quarter-finals without any hiccups.

 

Top seed Snehadevi Reddy handed a straight-set mauling to Delhi girl Karman Kaur 6-3, 6-1 while Andhra girl Moulika Ram failed to win even a single game against second seed Simran before making an embarrassing exit with a 0-6, 0-6 loss.Himani Mor also found the going tough against fifth seed D Nayanika Reddy as she lost 1-6,2-6.

 

In the under-16 boys singles, Fatehdeep Singh was posed hardly any challenge as the second seed Punjab boy spanked BR Nikshep 6-0, 6-1.
Third seed Jude Raymond also made it to the quarter-finals with a comfortable 6-2, 6-2 victory against SD Prajwal. Fourth seed Deepak Vishwakarma also cruised into the quarter-finals, overcoming a stiff challenge from 13th seed Vidit Vagela before he won the three-set battle 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. IB Akshay and Vishnu Prasad (10th seed) were the other expected entries into the quarter-finals on Wednesday.

 

Sachin Kumar, top seed in the under-14 boys singles, defeated Raghav Jaisingh 6-3, 6-0, while BR Nikshep (3rd seed) joined him in the quarter-finals with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Dhir Gala.

 

In the girls under 14 semi-finals Pranjala Yadlapalli seed one ousts Andhra girl Saranya Nagpal in an easy match of 6-1,6-0. The seed 2 player D Dayanika Reddy defeated Abholi Gagori seed 13 player in a good match with score of 6-0, 6-2.

Bhimijiyani Devanshi from Maharashtra the seed 3 player oust Nikita Anand in a match which started out difficult for the seed in the first set but she made easy play in the next two sets with a score of  57,61,61.
