Fenesta Open: Vishnu, Yuki march ahead

New Delhi: It was an easy day for the top seeds as both Vishnu Vardhan (No 1 seed) and Yuki Bhambri (No 2) sailed through the next round in the Fenesta Open National Tennis Championship here on Wednesday. Vishnu Vardhan beat Ronak Manuja 6-2, 6-1, while Yuki Bhambri got the better of Lakshit Sood 6-2, 6-4.


Happy with his win today, Vishnu said, “I played well today. Though Ronak plays well and is solid at the core, but he had nothing to hurt my game today. The weather is hot and humid and my fitness is supporting me well. For the rest of the matches, I will play to my basics.”

Now Vishnu will meet SV Abhishek, who beat Kunal Anand in a long-drawn affair 2-6, 7-6 (7/3), 6-1.

Yuki, who will next face Ankit Sachdeva, said, “It was a little tough contest for me today. I took it a little easy in the second set but was back in action soon.”

In another match, Saketh Myneni ousted PC Vignesh 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.

Meanwhile, the girl’s section witnessed some good performances in the second round. Isha Lakhani beat the second seed Sharmada Balu 6-4, 6-4, while Sheethal Goutham defeated Shreya Pasricha 6-2, 6-3. In another match, Pune girl Rutuja Bhosale easily got past Delhi’s Nehal Sahni 6-2, 6-0.
