Murray, Nadal, Venus start their Wimbledon campaign with wins

Andy Murray WimbledonAndy Murray begun the defence of his Wimbledon title with a 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 win over Alexander Bublik, while former World No. 1 Rafael Nadal recorded a lopsided 6-1, 6-3, 6-2 win over Australia's John Millman on a sunny, open-top No.1 Court, at the All England Club on Monday.

However, Tommy Haas who was awarded a wildcard for his 16th and final appearance at the All England Club, slumped to a 6-2 3-6 6-3 7-5 first-round defeat by Belgian qualifier Ruben Bemelmans.

Meanwhile in the women’s section, Venus celebrated the start of her 20th Wimbledon campaign by defeating the world No.54 Belgium’s Elise Mertens 7-6(7), 6-4 in one hour and 40 minutes.

Meanwhile, Johanna Konta, the No.6 seed, and Aljaz Bedene too moved into the Wimbledon second round. Konta recorded an impressive 6-2, 6-2 win over Taipei’s Su-Wei Hsieh, taking just over an hour while Bedene needed 4hrs 25 mins to overcome No.21 seed Ivo Karlovic 6-7(5),7-6 (6), 6-7(7), 7-6(7), 8-6.
