Bopanna-Mergea, Bryan Brothers out of Australian Open men’s doubles

bob mike bryanMelbourne: Rohan Bopanna and Florin Mergea lost 6-4, 6-3 to Treat Huey and Max Mirnyi in the pre-quarterfinals of the Australian Open, here on Sunday. Huey and Mirnyi will now face Nestor and Stepanek in the quarterfinal.

Daniel Nestor and Radek Stepanek overcame a set and a break deficit to survive Pablo Andujar and Pablo Carreno Busta 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.



Meanwhile, Lleyton Hewitt's Sam Groth lost to Vasek Pospisil and Jack Sock 6-4, 6-2. The ninth-seeded Canadian-American duo set a quarter-final clash against No. 16 seeds Pablo Cuevas and Marcel Granollers. The Uruguyan-Spanish tandem stunned second seeds and 2015 semi-finalists Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo 7-6(3), 2-6, 6-3 in just under two hours.

In another match, Raven Klaasen and Rajeev Ram stunned Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. It marked the third straight year the Bryans have lost in the third round in Melbourne.

In other action, Frenchmen Adrian Mannarino and Lucas Pouille beat Colombians Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah 6-3, 7-6(6) in 75 minutes.
