Mysore: Unseeded Saket Myneni defeated the sixth seed Ranjeet Virali Murugesan 6-3, 6-4 in 68 minutes and moved into the second round of the Zuari Garden City Mysore ITF Open Men's Futures tennis tournament here Tuesday.
Myneni had defeated Murugesan in the semi-finals en route to winning the ITF Mandya Open last week. The Andhra lad played aggressive game picking winners on both flanks and came up with blistering first serve to send down six aces.
Murugesan though came up with some splendid returns but was not as consistent enough and made errors on big points.
In the first set, Saket broke Murugesan in the eighth game for a 5-3 lead and then blasted three aces in the ninth to wrap up the set 6-3.
In the second set, both traded breaks early on before Myneni made a crucial break in the fifth and held on to the advantage to close the match.
Top seed Ti Chen from Chinese Taipei had no difficulty in disposing wild card Shahbaaz Khan 6-2, 6-2 in just one hour while third seeded Vijayant Malik, runner up at the ITF Mandya Open, subdued Frenchman Sebastien Boltz 6-3, 6-2.
