Achievements and Awards

•    In July 2005, he earned his third and final International Master norm at the Sort International open chess tournament in Sort, Spain.

•    On 1 July 2006, at the age of 13 years, he became the second-youngest Grand Master ever

•    On 6 January 2006, he received his second GM norm at the Hastings Chess Congress where he scored 6/10, a performance of 2568.

•    In July 2008 he won the strong Philadelphia International Open Tournament 2008 with a score of 7/9, and was undefeated.

•    In July 2009 he won the Politiken Cup tournament in Copenhagen with 8.5/10, ahead of Boris Avrukh on tiebreaks.

•    On 22 December, 2010 he beat G.N. Gopal to clinch the 48th National Premier Chess Championship in New Delhi.

Parimarjan Negi is the youngest ever Indian to achieve the Grand Master Title and International Master Title, he added more value to his record by clinching top honors in Politiken Cup 2009 (Denmark), Malaysian Cup 2009 (Kualalumpur), Gold Medal in Asian Team Chess Championship 2009, Kaupthing Open 2008 (Luxembourg), World Open, 2008 (USA) and the Philadelphia Open 2008 (USA) and second top honors in the World Junior Chess Championship held in 2008 in Turkey, thereby maintaining a high level of performance.

 


Parimarjan won coveted National Championship in December 2010 at the age of 17 years and qualified for the World Cup 2011 in Russia. In his pursuit he became the first ever national champion from the Delhi.


To commemorate his excellent skills as a Chess Player and his consistent efforts that brought laurels to the nation, Parimarjan Negi was bestowed upon the prestigious Arjuna Award by the Government of India in the year 2010.
