Vijay Kumar wins gold at Asian Shooting Championships

Doha: Vijay Kumar won a gold medal in Standard Pistol event, a non Olympic event, with score of 572/600 at the Asian Shooting Championships. There was a tie shoot for the first place with the Chinese shooter and he won the medal with a tie shoot score of 17 against 15 shot by Chinese shooter. Vijay Kumar has qualified for London Olympics in Rapid Fire Pistol event.

 

 

Samresh Jung and Mahavir Singh shot 552 and 542 and stood 16th and 24th respectively. The team of Vijay Kumar, Samaresh Jung, and Mahavir Singh was ranked at 5th place.

With this, India has won 4 gold medals. Abhinav Bindra, Raj Kumari and Vijay Kumar won individual gold medals earlier.  

In Standard Pistol Junior Men event, which was declared a “Friendly Match”, all the medals were won by the junior shooters from India. Ajitesh Kaushal won the gold medal with a score of 548/600. Shivraj Sase and Vikrant Ghaisis shot 546 and 536 and won silver and bronze respectively. Iran and Thailand were two other countries, which participated in this event. To be a recognized event, as per ASC rules, there should be minimum five participating countries. The shooters were awarded medals by Qatar Shooting Federation.
