78 shooters for Asian Shooting Championship

New Delhi: The National Rifle Association of India is sending a contingent of 78 (50 seniors and 28 juniors) shooters in rifle/pistol and shotgun to participate in Asian Shooting Championship at Doha starting from 11th January 2012. This is event is conducted once in 4 years and 35 “Quota Places” for 2012 Olympic Games would be decided.

 

India has already won 9 “Quota Places’ and we hope our shooters would be able to earn more “Quota Places” for London Olympic Games. There are 35 Quota Places available during Asian Shooting Championship. India has already taken two Quotas in Air Rifle Men event and no more Quotas can be won by any Indian Shooters, as two is the upper limit for Quota Places per event. Similarly, in Trap Women event, Shagun Chowdhary has won the Quota; hence, no other Quota can be won by Indian Shooter in this event. In women shotgun events, maximum of one Quota can be earned by any country. 

Manavjit Singh and Mansher Singh will be trying their luck in Trap event as no Quota has been won by any Indian Shooter. RVS Rathore will also be looking for Quota Place in Double Trap event as Ronjan Sodhi has won in Quota Place. Anjali Bhagwat (Air Rifle Women), Omkar Singh (Free/Air Pistol), Pemba  Tamang (Rapid  Fire Pistol), Om Prakash (Air Pistol Men),Tejaswini Sawant (3P Women), Heena Sidhu & Shweta Chaudhary (both Air Pistol women), Man Singh (Skeet) and Arti Singh (Skeet Women) would be trying their luck to get a Quota Place during this Championship.
