Koshy defends national title for 50M Rifle 3 Position

Shooting-260-2Pune: Kochi girl Elizabeth Susan Koshy shot a total of 449 to defend the national title for 50M Rifle Women’s 3 Position category at the ongoing 58th National Shooting Championships at the Balewadi Shooting Range Pune. Haryana’s Anjum Moudgill finished second with a total of 445, while CWG medalist Lujja Gauswami from Gujrat settled for the Bronze medal shooting a total of 433.3.

Maharshtra, which consisted of Former World Champion and Commonwealth Games Medalists, Tejaswini Sawant and Anjali Bhagwat along with Vedangi Tulzapurkar won the 50M Rifle Women’s 3 positions team event shooting a total of 1714. Railways finished second with a total of 1693, while the Bronze medal went to BSF, who shot a total of 1680.

Haryana’s Anjum Moudgill might have missed out on the gold for the 50M Rifle Women’s 3 position by a fair margin, but she made up for her loss by winning the Gold medal in the junior women’s category for the same event. She shot a total of 582 to become the new national champion in 50M Rifles Jr. Women’s 3 positions category outclassing defending champion Elizabeth Susan Koshy. Kerala girl Elizabeth Koshy finished second with a total of 578, while Sandhya W from Tamil Nadu bagged the Bronze medal shooting a total of 566. In the team event Maharashtra won the gold with a total of 1664, while the Silver medal went to Tamil Nadu with a total of 1663 and Punjab settled for the bronze medal with a total of 1618.

In the 25M Standard Men’s Pistol championship Olympic Silver Medalist Vijay Kumar took the pole position in the qualification round shooting a total of 571 while trailing him just by a point was Gurpreet Singh. Omkar Singh from the Navy was placed third with a total of 568. The finals for this category will be conducted tomorrow.

The 58th National Shooting Championship Competitions are being held at the Shri Chhatrapti Shivaji Balewadi Shooting Range, Pune. The National Rifles Association of India in association with the Maharashtra Rifles Association of India is organizing the event from the 12th – 24th of December 2014.
