Abhinav Bindra wins bronze in 50m Rifle Prone, Hariom wins gold

abhinav bindra Pune: India’s sole individual Olympic gold medalist, Abhinav Bindra, competing in the 50m Rifle Prone event for men after a gap of almost a decade, won the bronze medal at the 58th National Shooting Championships, being held at the Balewadi Shooting Range in Pune.

Fellow Olympic Medalist Gagan Narang finished fourth in the eight man final, after having finished third in qualifying, marginally ahead of Abhinav, who qualified in fourth position. India team mate Hariom Singh, representing the Indian Army, won the gold in the event shooting a total of 205 in the finals, after having qualified in sixth position. Abhinav shot 183.8 while Gagan finished with 163.5.


In the Women’s 10m Air Pistol event, Punjab’s Harveen Sarao led the field at the end of qualifying with a score of 379. Shital Shivaji Thorat of Maharashtra finished second with a score of 377 while Rachna Devi representing the CRPF came in third with a score of 376.


In the Men's 50m Rifle Prone Team event, the Army Marksmanship Unit comprising of Chain SIngh, Surendra Singh Rathod and Sushil Ghaley won the Gold with a combined effort of 1855.3. The team from the Indian Air Force bagged the Silver while Uttar Pradesh won the Bronze.


The 58th National Shooting Championship Competitions are being held at the Shri Chhatrapti Shivaji Balewadi Shooting Range, Pune. The National Rifles Association of India in association with the Maharashtra Rifles Association of India is organizing the event from the 12th – 24th of December 2014.
