Inter-school Judo Competition at VIBGYOR High School

VIBGYORMumbai: VIBGYOR High School, Goregaon organised an Inter-school Judo Competition in collaboration with Association of ICSE Schools in Maharashtra (AISM), in an attempt to actively promote Judo as a competitive sport amongst children. The event was scheduled on the school premises of VIBGYOR High School, Goregaon today.

The School and the Association invited students from several ICSE schools across Western region. Simon Harmer, South African Cricketer was the Guest of Honour and spoke to the students on the importance of sports.

The competition witnessed a participation of around 40 schools with over 600 students who proficiently displayed their athletic skills. The competition was held across 4 age categories, namely - U10, U12, U14 and U16 for both, boys and girls. Students from schools like Children’s Academy, Vissanji Academy, Dirubhai Ambani, VIBGYOR High and a few more were among the winning list. The winners from each category were awarded with a certificate from AISM and a medal from VIBGYOR High.

Expressing his views about the event, Shim Mathew, Director - Principal, VIBGYOR High School, Goregaon said, “In our school, we give utmost importance to every form of sports and we systematically implement it for all our students with the help of appropriate infrastructure and specially designed curriculum.”

“Judo is an Olympic sport and we feel more and more students should be encouraged to participate in it. We are thankful to AISM for their support in organising this event”, he added.

Commenting on the event, Perin Bagli, Secretary, AISM, Maharashtra, “We believe participation in sports is as important as academic excellence for every child. We promote different form of sports such as Football, Basketball, Swimming, Cricket and many others through various interschool events. This is the first time we are conducting interschool Judo competition as it is gaining wide popularity amongst students. We appreciate the efforts undertaken by VIBGYOR High to initiate and organise this event.”
