New Delhi: Delhi Public School, R K Puram has the proud privilege of hosting the 27th All India IPSC Swimming Championship (Boys & Girls) from 29 September to 1 October 2012. Over 500 children from 23 schools across the country are attending the event.
Indian Public School`s Conference or IPSC was formed in 1939 and is known for its glorious traditions. The Conference started with a few schools initially but now has a strength of 79 schools. DPS R.K.Puram has been a Member of the IPSC since 1992. The primary aim of Public School as stated in the IPSC Articles of Association is, "to prepare students of ability for positions of service and responsibilities in all walks of national life". The objective of the present championship is to promote a healthy spirit of competition and interaction thus forging strong bonds between the students which are essential for national integration.
The opening ceremony took place on 29th September in the school’s sports complex. The chief guest was Manavjit Singh Sandhu, the renowned Indian shooter who specializes in trap shooting and is an alumnus of the 1994 batch of DPS R.K.Puram. He is a Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Awardee 2006 and Arjuna Awardee 1998. The guests of honour were Anjum Chopra, former captain of the National Indian Women’s Cricket Team (from the batch of 1994) and Ms.Neha Aggarwal, the ace Indiantable tennis player, an alumnus of the 2007 batch of the school.
The programme commenced with the lighting of the lamp. The Vice Principal, Shobha Mehta welcomed all the guests. She conveyed her best wishes to the participants for the next three days and exhorted them to ‘learn from each other and strive to excel’. Pushpa Aggarwal, Vice Principal, DPS Shiksha Kendra; Mukesh Kumar, Supervisor; Vanita Sehgal and Anita Singh, Headmistresses of DPS R.K.Puram were present on the occasion along with Mrs Archana Pental and Mrs Dolly Chanana, Headmistresses of the junior schools, Vasant Vihar and East of Kailash respectively.
The school choir welcomed everyone with a melodious song. Yash Sansanwal, an ace swimmer of the school, who was also chosen as the best swimmer in the All India Inter DPS Swimming Championship at Moradabad in 2012, administered the oath to all the participants to maintain the spirit of fair play and healthy competition. A vibrant dance was performed by the students of DPS R.K.Puram.
Addressing the students, Manavjit Singh Sandhu highlighted the importance of healthy competition and the need for students to push their limits and set new targets. Anjum Chopra stressed on the need to ‘eliminate the fear of failure’ so that nothing can stop them from succeeding. Neha Aggarwal expressed her thanks to Dr. Saini who is in Canada, for all his support and emphasized the importance of balancing academics and sports.
Manavjit Singh Sandhu declared the Meet open. The Sports Captain, Arzoo Malik delivered the vote of thanks.
The next three days will witness a plethora of swimming events in the under 14, under-17 and under-19 boys and girls category.
