Mumbai: Our contemporary lifestyles leave limited options for us to spend time on things that we like to do. Keeping this in mind, PNB MetLife has initiated a movement called “Play for Happiness”, wherein they want to re-introduce sports, healthy living and happiness back in people’s life. As a start to this venture and under the aegis of MetLife’s association with the Badminton World Federation’s Super Series League, the PNB MetLife Corporate Badminton Challenge was launched on 18th April with the Mumbai leg.
The tournaments will be held in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore. In Mumbai it has already completed two weekends on 18th, 19th, 25th,26th April and the Knock out stages will be held on 2nd and 3rd May 2015 at Goregaon Sports Club. Over 110 corporates with more than 600 participants played the Mumbai matches in the League Stages of the PNB MetLife Corporate Badminton Challenge over the first two weeks. Corporates like TCS, Yes Bank, HSBC, Reliance, ICICI Bank, JP Morgan, and Aon Global amongst others have send across their employees for participation in this exciting challenge. Any person employed in the company can participate. There are six categories that one can participate in:
Men’s singles (MS): OPEN
Men’s doubles (MD): OPEN
Women’s singles (WS): OPEN
Mixed doubles (MXD): OPEN
Men’s singles (MS 40+) (Cut off - Born on or before 31st December, 1974)
Family doubles (FD): OPEN (Only parent, spouse or child can partner the employee. No siblings allowed.)
On this occasion Mr Tarun Chugh, MD & CEO, PNB MetLife Insurance, said, “Important aspects of life such as taking care of one’s health, playing a sport and generally doing things that make us happy have taken a back seat. We have the opportunity to bring the sport back to its status as a fun, family sport. We are working with the corporates to conduct these badminton tournaments and give people an opportunity to engage with friends and families in a competitive yet fun environment,”
The company just concluded the PNB MetLife Junior Badminton Championship, which was the hunt for the future badminton star of India. Eight talented children across India have been crowned as national champions with scholarships and 16 talented underprivileged children have also been given scholarships for further training. PNB MetLife has also been organizing Housing Society Badminton Tournaments, where the winners will represent their societies in city finals.
