Delhi to host Mawana Sugars Indian Open Marathon on Feb. 17

New Delhi: The Mawana Sugars Indian Open Marathon, one of the oldest national sports event is gaining momentum as the ‘D-Day’ gets closer, with an increasing number of entries. Scheduled to be held on Sunday, February 17, 2013 after a flag-off from the iconic India Gate at 07.30 a.m., the marathon will run through some of the capital city’s important landmarks before it winds its way back to the India Gate for the finish.

The Mawana Sugars Indian Open Marathon 2013 in association with USHA International is held under the aegis of the Athletic Federation of India (AFI) and is the longest running marathon in the Capital. At this point, only Indian runners may participate.
 
The marathon is a non-commercial run organized purely for promoting the spirit of sports, an attitude towards playing irrespective of age and gender, all for a healthful, cheerful and wholesome life. This is an event where men and women winners of the main marathon receive equal exposure and the winner’s prize money is two and a half lakhs.  The total prize money is Rs 15 lakhs.

In addition to runners from the Delhi Police, Indian Army, Air Force and Para Military Forces, this year corporates and colleges are being encouraged to send in their teams of runners and their active participation is being solicited by way of road shows and through the digital medium.
