New Delhi: Even you can rub shoulders with India’s highest ranked golfer, Gaganjeet Singh, and even get a few golfing tips from him. And the second edition of the $200,000 Louis Philippe Cup that will be played at the Jaypee Green Golf Resort from February 11-16 would be an ideal opportunity for a start.
Bhullar, a four time Asian Tour winner, has been signed as a brand ambassador for the Jaypee Green Golf Resort for a period of three years and he would be representing the debutants Jaypee Green Greater Noida in the second edition of the golf’s original IPL format inter-city tournament.
Bhullar, who played for Dev-Ellora Chandigarh Team last year, would team up with veterans Sanjay Kumar and Vijay Kumar and the trio has so far won over 100 professional events between them.
Speaking about their chances in the competition, Bhullar said, “I have played at this Greg Norman Jaypee Golf Course before this course suits my style of playing. This is one course where lot of power hitting and long shots will help. And my game suites that style. The experience of both Sanjay and Vijay will only strengthen our team.”
Bhullar, who reached a career high ranking of 88 last year, also said that he aimed to get into the top-50 in the world ranking this year and get more invitations from the European tour. “I didn’t have a great tournament recently but I am looking for some solid performances in the upcoming tournaments starting with the Louis Philippe Cup,” added Bhullar, who is also likely to conduct coaching clinics at the course in the future.
Meanwhile, Sanjay Kumar welcomed the presence of team mate Bhullar in the team and said it makes a huge difference when a player of that stature leads the team.
Through their support for the Greater Noida team in the Louis Philippe Cup, as one of the largest investors in golf infrastructure in the country today, Jaypee Greens is looking to take their association with professional golf to an all new level, by making deeper connections with the golf enthusiasts all over the city and country.
Vidya Basarkod, President (Sales & Marketing), Jaypee Greens articulated, “Jaypee Greens have been a pioneer in developing international standard golf-centric townships. It is only logical for developers like us to promote the game and the players as well, because that is complementing our infrastructure.”
“Louis Philippe Cup has an exciting format and relates to fans easily, while also being a win-win situation for our properties as well as the sport”, further added Vidya Basarkod.
Sanjay Kumar, who finished No 12 on the 2012 PGTI rankings list will be playing alongside Gaganjeet and Vijay Kumar. “ Gaganjeet’s style of playing long shot is an ideal preference for this Greg Norman Course and his presence will only increase our chances of winning the tournament,” expressed Sanjay Kumar.
His compatriot, Vijay Kumar, winner of some 80 to 100 titles on the pro circuit and a former Indian Open Champion has similar views about their chances at the 2nd edition of Louis Philippe Cup, “Now that we have Gaganjeet playing with us, we have become a very strong team. Last year he won two titles on the Asian tour in a span of one month, I guess now it’s his turn to show us some magical golf on the home soil as well”, he enthused.
With India’s top 27 golfers representing 9 cities: Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, Ahmedabad , Chandigarh and Greater Noida, Golf enthusiasts are keenly awaiting the second edition of sport’s magnum opus- the Louis Philippe Cup that changed the face of Golf in India. The air is once again filled with anticipation of a revolutionary tournament that endeavours to convert even an occasional golf viewer to a devoted fanatic rooting for his city. With the tournament growing bigger in the years to come, an increase in the fan base will lead to more people being encouraged to learn and develop a passion for golf.
