New Delhi: Kolkata and Goa teams came up with a scintilating display to top their respective groups and reach the semifinals of the 10th National Slum Soccer Championship here on Thursday.
The four-a-side tournament saw 35 league matches being played at the Dr. B.R Ambedkar Stadium with the Kolkata and Goa teams winning all their matches with ease.
Kashmir team participating for the first time failed to seal their berth in the top 4 by a fraction. Both Karnataka, Maharashtra and J& K were tied with three points and finally Karnataka went through to the finals based on better goal difference.
Kolkata will now be facing Karnataka while Goa takes on Tamil Nadu in the semifinals.
This is our first tour to Delhi and we never though we will be coming to the national capital, said one of the player from Karnataka team, who had gone around the Capital and had some memorable experiences to take back.
CEO of Slum Soccer Abhijeet Barse was elated with the way the matches went and said it gave the NGO more confidence for future tournaments.
"Teams like J&K coming for the first time is a huge experience> And moreover just playing at the Ambedkar Stadium was a dream come true for most of these youngsters.This tournament will surely inspire all of us to work hard," he added
