Sahara India Pariwar launches its Polo Team - ‘Sahara Warriors’

Mumbai: Sahara India Pariwar, a major business conglomerate and the prime promoter & patron of sports in India, has created another milestone today in its sporting repertoire by entering the Polo arena with the launch of its polo team. The Sahara India Pariwars polo team named ‘Sahara Warriors’ in intended to participate in national as well as international tournaments and also to encourage the game of Polo in India. The team played its debut game at the Indian Masters Polo Tournament, New Delhi, today.

‘Sahara Warriors’, the Sahara India Polo Team consists of renowned players Samir Suhag, Adhiraj Singh, George Meyrick, Max Charlton and Siddhant Sharma. Suhag and Singh are recipients of the coveted ‘Arjuna Award’ the highest award for sporting excellence in the country. Suhag is known for his long hitting, his ability to get to the ball quickly and carry it with accuracy and speed. Presently, Samir Suhag is the only Indian polo player at +5 handicap in India and has played three world cups.

Singh has won Indian Open Championship twice. He has been an International Level Horseman and has also represented India in International Equestrian Events.

Meyrick with a handicap of 5 in the UK and 6 in Argentina George is one of the best young Polo professionals in the world. He is the youngest player ever to compete in a Senior England team. He began playing Polo at the age of seven, turning professional at the age of 18. Max Charlton (+5) from UK has over 30 tournaments under his belt this season, reached 20 finals and won 18 of them.

The team uniform of Sahara Warriors is blue and white with Indian National tri-colour strips. The team uniform is designed by the celebrated costume designer Neeta Lulla.

Apart from Indian Masters Polo, Sahara Warriors will also play the upcoming Positiviti Sir Pratap Singh Cup and Baroda Cup at Delhi and Royal Salute Cup at Jodhpur, this year. Next Year on January 2013, the team will play the Mount Shivalik Trophy and Vodafone Sirmur Cup at Jaipur and on February 2013, the team will participate in Scindhia Gold Cup and Northern India Polo Trophy at Delhi.
