Priyanka Chopra to play Marykom in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s biopic on the Olympic bronze medallist?

Ever since Sanjay Leela Bhansali announced a film on the life of Olympic bronze medallist MC Marykom, there has been speculation over the leading lady of the film and if media reports are to be believed, Priyanka Chopra might be the front-runner for the coveted role, though reports also suggests Katrina Kaif’s name in the reckoning.

According to a report in Hindustan Times, Priyanka is going through the script right now but nothing can be finalised until she finishes reading it. “It’s a big secret because neither Sanjay nor Omung want to let any information about the film out,” says a source, according to the HT report.

The film to be directed by Omung Kumar (the art director on Black in 2005 and Saawariya in 2007). The report quotes Omung saying that they aren’t sure if it’s going to be an established star or a new face. “But whoever is the chosen one will have to go through training to pick up Mary’s style, body language and moves.”

Meanwhile Mary Kom it seems has become a source of inspiration for many and this time it’s south actress Kajal Aggarwal. In Ghajini director A R Murugadoss' soon-to-release Tamil thriller Thuppakki, starring Vijay, the female protagonist essayed by Singham actress Kajal Aggarwal is playing a boxer.

According to a report in Mid Day,  Kajal Aggarwal took inspiration from Mary Kom in her upcoming movie where she is playing a role of a boxer. “As boxer Nisha, I am this strong willed, impulsive girl. I watched a lot of Mary Kom’s matches. Initially I started watching her matches to just understand and learn her body language. Later I was totally gripped and I was following her bouts during the Olympics as well,” Kajal said.
