Pink City all set to host JK Tyre-FMSCI Indian National TSD Rally Championship 2012

New Delhi: The beautiful city of Jaipur is all geared up to witness a weekend of thrilling action and adventure as the inaugural JK Tyre-FMSCI Indian National TSD Rally heads to the capital of Rajasthan after visiting Bangalore and Ranchi during Rounds 1 and 2. Fifty of India’s top rally drivers will battle it out in different categories in the 3rd round of the challenging national championship titled ‘Rally of Jaypore’. B L Soni, Commissioner of Police, Jaipur, will flag off the rally at 4:00 pm on Saturday, November 3rd 2012 from the city’s Fern Hotel.

Round 3 has attracted 25 entries in the Pro-Expert and Pro-Stock Categories while 25 drivers are expected to take part in the Novice Class, which is open to first-timers wanting to experience the thrill of professionally organised motor rallying. Like in previous rounds, the Rally of Jaypore will see constructors such as Maruti, Mahindra, TATA, Volkswagen and others marking their presence in the rally through private entries.

Covering an approximate distance of 200 kms, the rally will begin from the Fern Hotel at 7:00 am on Sunday, November 4th 2012. The rally will test the skills of the drivers and navigators and pass through some of Rajasthan’s most charming yet rugged locales such as Jaigarh & Nahargarh Fort, Amer Fort, Achrol, Ramgarh, Raisar and will end in Jaipur before heading back to the hotel at around 4:00 pm.

Being conducted under the aegis of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI), the Rally of Jaypore is part of India’s first national Time-Speed-Distance (TSD) Rally Championship and marks JK Tyre’s return to rallying after a decade. It is promoted by the Mysore based Berunda Adventure Club and is being held over six rounds across India.

Sanjay Sharma, Head - Motorsport, JK Tyre & Industries Limited said, “Jaipur has a rich history in cars and motorsport and we are pleased to bring one leg of our first national TSD rally championship here. The city offers drivers some spectacular terrain and challenging driving conditions and with Jaipur’s warmth and hospitality, we’re sure Round 3 will be a very exciting affair.”

The ‘Wild Adventure Rally’ that concluded in Ranchi on September 16 was Round 2 of the national challenge, receiving an overwhelming response and some intense competition from a number of experienced teams. The duo of Sachin Singh and M Chandrashekar from Hyderabad and Bangalore driving a Tata Sumo won Round 2 with a penalty time of just 45 seconds. In the Pro-Stock class, Bangalore’s Chidananda Murthy and BS Sujith Kumar repeated their Round one victory by topping their class. The pair, driving a Tata Indica Vista, completed proceedings with a penalty time of 3 minutes 23 seconds. Wining the Novice Class in a Maruti Swift were Ashish Agrawal and Aditya Modi with a penalty of 00:07:16.

TSD rallying places a lot of emphasis on maintaining clear-cut timing and average speeds that are at or below the legal limit, on different segments of a route. Events are conducted on a carefully chosen predefined route, which may be a public road or a country back road, following traffic rules and in the presence of other vehicles. Each participating car has a driver and navigator who are provided with route instructions, in addition to instructions to keep a team on course with assigned average speeds for each stage of the route.
