The initiative is instituted with intent to combat cancer by spreading awareness about the disease, advantages of early detection and fighting the stigma attached to it.
‘Man of the series’, World Cup, 2011, Yuvraj Singh contributed towards India’s triumph and now is all set to contribute towards the betterment of our society through ‘YouWeCan’. Having survived cancer with utter perseverance and zeal, Yuvraj has become synonymous with strength and spirit. He chose this event as a platform to transcend the same courage amongst the masses and invite them for joining him in this cause to fight cancer.
Speaking at the launch, Yuvraj Singh said, “The journey from being a part of the World Cup winning team to fighting for my life has indeed been full of emotions. I was faced with the biggest high of witnessing India lift the World Cup and the shock of suffering from cancer, both at nearly the same time. Having experienced cancer personally, I can totally empathize with the pain and difficulties faced by a cancer patient and thus we have launched ‘YouWeCan’. I feel extremely passionate and motivated about using this platform to appeal to everyone, to come forward for early detection, as I have myself benefited from it and it is key to saving your life from Cancer. I am determined to make a dent in the society and fight for controlling cancer but cannot achieve my objectives without your participation and support. I believe, together You and We CAN. And remember, if Yuvi Can, You Can!!”
‘YouWeCan’ will extend its wings across the country by introducing various awareness initiatives, set up detection camps through mobile vans by reaching out to the masses, establish permanent detection centers across the country and initiate a ‘Speak Up Campaign’, to establish a base for fighting Stigma against Cancer, all in association with the Indian Cancer Society.
The initiative intends to get some of the most respected and established names from various industries on board, who are willingly to contribute towards enhancing the reach of this program and making it a revolution.
Making it a one-of-its-kind event, press was invited along with their families to meet and greet with Yuvraj Singh. He played gully cricket with the kids present at the event and gave them insights towards being a successful cricketer. This truly highlights Yuvraj’s commitment to the society. With this program his intent behind inviting the families was to motivate everyone to go for early detection as they are not only responsible for themselves but also for their families. Along with this, he wanted to acquaint people about mis-informations on cancer and to communicate that the patients suffering from it are as normal as him and the way they all indulged with him, the approach should be the same for other cancer patients & survivors as well.
Yuvraj Singh’s mother, Shabnam Singh also graced the occasion and unveiled the YouWeCan identity with Yuvraj. She was accompanied by many well-wishers and friends without whom it would have been difficult for Yuvraj to fight this battle and all of whom continue partnering his mission.
