Superstar Shah Rukh Khan is on cloud nine these days. And why should he be? After all it took his team Kolkata Knight Riders five years, hundreds of crores and a lot of hard work to win the coveted IPL trophy in 2012. So if he gets bogged off by some irrelevant question like selling his stake in his franchisee, it’s but natural.
“Why would I sell my stake? As far as I know, there are no such plans. But I am not aware if someone else is doing it without keeping me in the loop,” quips SRK. Technically, Shah Rukh has about 55 per cent stake in the franchise, while former co-star Juhi Chawla and the Sea Island Ltd (run by her husband Jay Mehta) hold the remaining shares, says a report in Hindustan Times.
KKR pocketed a whopping Rs. 10 crore in prize money. SRK says he isn’t am not looking for stake owners at all. “Instead, I want strong strategic partners who can help in terms of expertise (in sports management) and also bring it to other sports like football or hockey.”
SRK is also believed to have bought a 50 per cent stake in Goa-based football club (and current I-League champions) Dempo. If at all it happens, SRK’s investment in the football club will be through his banner, Red Chillies, says the HT report.
Meanwhile riding high on the success of Kolkata Knight Riders at the recently concluded Indian Premier League season 5, Shah Rukh Khan is said to have roped in the R&B singer Akon to record a new anthem for the cricket franchise.
Industry grapevine is abuzz that to add zing to IPL season 6, Shah Rukh Khan plans to team up with Akon and re-create the Bangla anthem ‘Korbo, Lorbo, Jeetbo Re' (We will do it, Fight for it, Win it). The said anthem aims to celebrate the win attained after a long wait of five years.
