Haryana's Olympians to get Rs.11 lakh reward

 

Chandigarh: All players from Haryana participating in the London Olympics next month will get a reward money of Rs.11 lakh each, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced here Friday.

 

Hooda said the reward money for participating players and medal winners was being enhanced considerably to encourage sportspersons. The decision was announced after a state cabinet meeting here Friday.

 

The chief minister said that players from Haryana winning gold, silver and bronze medals in the Olympic Games would now get Rs.2.50 crore, Rs.1.50 crore and Rs.1 crore, respectively. Earlier, the amount was respectively Rs.2 crore, 1 crore and 50 lakh.

 

Asian Games gold, silver and bronze medallists would now get Rs.25 lakh, Rs.15 lakh and Rs.10 lakh, respectively, instead of Rs.10 lakh, Rs.7 lakh and Rs.5 lakh given earlier.

 

Commonwealth Games (CWG) gold, silver and bronze medallist players from Haryana would get Rs.15 lakh, Rs.10 lakh and Rs.5 lakh, respectively, instead of Rs.7 lakh, Rs.5 lakh and Rs.3 lakh.

 

Participating players in the Asian Games and CWG would get a reward of Rs.2 lakh each.

 

Hooda said that Para-olympics Asian Games gold medallist players would now get Rs.25 lakh. As per the earlier policy, they were given Rs.1 lakh only.

 

The state government has enhanced or introduced cash rewards for other international sporting events also. (IANS)
