Kolkata's Knights begin victory parade

Kolkata: With a frenzied crowd of thousands cheering on, Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) Tuesday began a victory parade from south Kolkata's Hazra Crossing on a flower-bedecked open top trailer.

Security forces had a tough time controlling the frenzied people lined on both sides of the road, surging forward and making frantic attempts to touch the players.

At Hazra, thousands waited for hours for the roadshow to start. Wild cheers went up as the players led by Gautam Gambhir came down from the two team buses and boarded the trailer on which was written in blue and white - "Korechi, Lorechi, Jitechi Re" (We have done it, we have fought it, we have won it)".

People threw bouquets at the players, who hurled them back to the crowd.

However, there was some disappointment as team co-owner, Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan was not present in the parade. However, he was expected to be at the ceremony in Eden Gardens, where more crowds waited anxiously for the victorious team. (IANS)
