New Delhi: Haryana Hammers owner and Bollywood director Goldie Behl said that innovation comes from discomfort and need for survival.
“When there is need and discomfort, it would lead to innovation,” said Behl, who was speaking at a press conference on “Innovation in Play” organised by ProSportify, the sponsor of Pro Wrestling League at a city hotel in New Delhi.
Speaking on opportunities in wrestling, Behl said, “There is an opportunity for wrestlers to make a living out of sport and picked up by a franchise and earn good money.”
Goldi also emphasised on the need for awareness. He said “People should know how many sports are here apart from cricket.”
“Speaking of the most important factor of any sport is its sportsman. You can be a good player, a passionate player but for any sport to grow everyone with love for sport needs to be involved in some or the other way. Sports is a feasible career option and with the current eco system, there are too many opportunities, “said Goldie Behl.
Former cricketer Saba Karim, sports guru Himanshu Chaturvedi, Pro Sportify CEO Sunil Kalra, Rio Olympic Bronze medal winner Marwa Amri, 2014 Commonwealth Games Silver Medalist Yana Rattigan were also present during the discussion.
Marwa Amri said that this was the first time she had come to India and that she was very happy to win bronze medal along with Sakshi Malik. Rattigan said this was the biggest event in sports wrestling and this was “history in the making”.
Saba Karim, on being asked how he would see other sports in India compared to cricket, said, “Do you want our nation to be a sporting nation or just compete with cricket? How many of our children in the age group of 12 to 20 years choose active sports these days?”
He also raised a very important question that we talk about innovation, growth and much about sports in India but what was the ultimate game plan or measures that we needed to implement. "Do we need to extend the league time period? This is what needs to be thought about. But surely PWL is one of the leagues that has and will continue to be a platform for the wrestlers across the globe to showcase their talent, “added Saba Karim.
Sports Guru Himanshu Chaturvedi said, “Lot of things have changed in sports over the years but a lot needs to be done.” He also emphasised on developing sports culture at grass-root level like schools and colleges and said people should be interested to motivate their children to make a career in sports as well.
Pro Wrestling League 2016 is all set to begin this December.
