Hyderabad: India is hosting the Volkswagen 10th World Junior Table Tennis Championships this year instead of 2013. The 2012 edition was originally allotted to South Africa but the South African federation expressed its inability to host this year's championships, citing some unforeseen reason at home. Under the circumstances, the event was offered to India, who was originally scheduled to host next year's championships. The TTFI and APTTA had readily agreed to host this year's edition in the historical city of Hyderabad.
AP Sports Complex, Indoor Stadium, Gachibowli is the venue of the Mega Sports Event. The matches will be commenced at 9 am on December 9th while the Inaugural Ceremony will be held between 5 to 6. The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh shall be the Chief Guest of the Inaugural Ceremony. The Hon’ble Minister for Youth Services and Sports shall be the Special Guest of Honour.
The Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh has been actively associated with the Championships, and has provided the necessary Infrastructure and support and has given a facelift to it’s existing Indoor Stadium by undertaking all the repairs, landscaping, Lighting of the Stadium etc.,
More than 300 Under-18 Boys and Girls from 40 Countries are going to take part in the Mega Sports Event. There shall be about 100 International Technical Officials including Umpires and Referees.
Considering the Logistics, all the Players representing various countries will be put up in Hotel Aditya Sarovar Premiere, Gachibowli while all the Officials of the International Table Tennis Federation will be put up in Hotel Westin – Mindspace, Raheja Park, Hi-tech City.
The Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh is presenting this World Junior Table Tennis Championships and the Volkswagen is the Title Sponsor of the Event. The Co-Sponsors are Butterfly, Joola, Stag International who are the Equipment suppliers.

The International Table Tennis Federations has formatted the Championships into two, i.e. Team and Individual categories. Team events include Boys-team, Girls-team, Boys-Doubles, Girls-Doubles and Mixed Doubles. The remaining are, Boys-Singles and Girls-Singles.
Hyderabad is the venue for all the Official Meetings of the International Table Tennis Federation, in which all the Office bearers of the ITTF are likely to attend during the course of the Championships.
The ITTF is holding the following Meetings at Hyderabad:
a) Executive Committee Meeting;
b) Junior Commission Meeting; and
c) Continental Heads Meeting
The Table Tennis Federation of India has called for it’s Executive Board Meeting on the 15th December 2012 at Hyderabad.
China has been completely dominating the Junior Championships and Japan has started winning one or two medals for the last three years. The Indian paddlers won the bronze medal in the World Junior Table Tennis Championships-2011 held in Bahrain. Indian team consists of Soumyajit Ghosh, Harmeet Desai and G Sathyan, who made India proud by giving a tough fight to the powerful Chinese team.
The Volkswagen 10th World Junior Table Tennis Championships-2012 will be conducted on 12 International standard tables. Another dozen tables are allocated for practice sessions. The APTTA has arranged a makeshift practice arena accommodating 12 tables at the swimming pool complex at Gachibowli Sports Complex.
Joola Table, Butterfly balls and Stag’s Terraflex flooring is used for the International event.
The Indian team will arrive here on December 3rd and other teams will be arriving a couple of days after to acclimatize themselves to the local conditions. Arjuna Award winner and former National champion Kamalesh Mehta and Bhavani Mukherjee are the Coaches of the Indian contingent.
We are very delighted to see a girl from Andhra Pradesh Karanam Spoorthy in action in the Volkswagen 10th World Junior Table Tennis Championships. She is one of the members of the Indian contingent.
