Junior National Aquatic Championships: Maharashtra boys break national record in relay

Rayna SaldhanaMumbai: Rayna Saldhana lived up to her billing of top seed by easily winning the 1500m freestyle Girls Group I. Although she has raced for the first time in this age group, Rayna swept the opposition to give Maharashtra its first gold medal on the third day in the 43rd Glenmark Junior National Aquatic Championships with a time of 18:33.72 sec. She was followed by Preksha H.M. of Karnataka who won silver with a time of 18:46.53 sec. Bhavika Dugar of Tamil Nadu won bronze with a time of 18:57.46 sec.

The Maharashtra Relay team of Neel Roy, Vedant Singh, Aniket Chawan and Ishan Jaffer swam a fantastic race to claim gold and create a new National record in the 4*200 Group I Boys freestyle relay with a time of 8:04.39 sec. Karnataka won the silver with a time of 8:04.61 sec while Delhi claimed bronze with a time of 8:24.29 sec.

Neel Roy won the second gold of the day for Maharashtra in the 400m Individual Medley with a time of 4:42.50 sec. Neel like Rayna is also participating in this group for the first time. He was followed by Shivaksh Sahu of Chhattisgarh who clocked a time of 4:46.80 sec. Advait Page from Madhya Pradesh won bronze with a time of 4:46.80 sec.

The Maharashtra Relay team of Avdoor Parulekar, Aryan Bhosale, Utkarsh HAdge and Rudransh Mishra claimed bronze in the 4*200 Group II Boys freestyle relay with a time of 9:05.43 sec. Karnataka won Gold with a time of 8:26.90 sec setting a new national record in the process while Tamil Nadu claimed silver with a time of 8:48.53 sec.

Trisha Karkhanis Rayna’s teammate from Glenmark Aquatic foundation won her second silver of the meet in the 100m butterfly Girls Group 1 with a time of 1:06.78 sec. Damini K Gowda bettered her own timing creating a new National record of 1:04.66 sec to claim gold. Suman Patil from Goa won bronze with a time of 1:07.50 sec.

Rudransh Mishra of Maharashtra who trains at the Glenmark Aquatic Foundation won silver in a closely contested 100m freestyle with a time of 57.53 sec narrowly losing to Sanjay CJ who clocked a time of 55.60 sec. Prasidha Krishna P.A. claimed bronze with a time of 58.34 sec.

Soumya Vora of Maharashtra swam a fantastic race in the outside lane to claim the bronze in the 100m freestyle boys Group I with a time of 55.08 sec. Ishaan Jaffer of Maharashtra won the silver with a time of 54.67 sec. The gold went to Rahul M Karnataka with a time of 54.19 sec.

Yuga Birnale from Maharashtra added a silver to her kitty in the Nationals winning silver in the 50m backstroke Girls Group I with a time of 32.12 sec. Nivya Raja of Tamil Nadu won gold with a time of 31.89 sec while Jhanati Rajesh from Karnataka won bronze with a time of 32.97 sec.

The Relay team of Maharashtra comprising of Yuga Birnale, Mitali Darda, Muskaan Tolani and Rayna Saldhana won silver in the 4*200 m Girls Group I Freestyle relay with a time of 9:16.78 sec, Karnataka won the gold with a time of 9:10.31 sec while West bengal claimed bronze with a time of 9:23.31 sec.

The Relay team of Maharashtra comprising of Karvi Gaikwad, Hitashi Mehta, Saee Patil and Kenisha Gupta won silver in the 4*200 m Girls Group II Freestyle relay with a time of 9:37.76 sec, Karnataka won the gold with a time of 9:24.20 sec while Tamil Nadu claimed bronze with a time of 9:59.42 sec.
