Mumbai: On the 1st day of 43rd Glenmark Junior Aquatic Championship 2016, swimmers from Maharashtra won maximum medals at Basvanagudi Aquatic Centre, Bengaluru.
The first finals, Boys’ 200m Freestyle (Group I) saw Ishaan Jaffer from Maharashtra clinch gold clocking 1.56.58 sec. Followed by Shivakshu Sahu from Chattisgarh at 1:59.58 sec and Neel Roy from Maharashtra at 1:59.91 sec.
In the Boys’ 100m Breaststroke (Group I) Siddharth Sankhe from Maharashtra pushed for gold at 1:06.79 sec while Varun Patel from Madhya Pradesh reached for silver at 1:07.48 sec and Yuvraj Patel from Gujarat took bronze clocking 1:08.83 sec.
In the Girls’ 50M Butterfly (Group IV), Maharashtra’s Nitya Khinvasara secured gold in 35:12 sec followed by Jharna Kashyap from Assam taking silver in 36:08 sec and Cynthia Choudhury of west Bengal taking a bronze in 36:25 sec.
In the Women 100m Backstroke (Group I) Yuga Birnale from Maharashtra swam a fantastic 2nd half to own the gold clocking 1:09.20 sec. Janathi Rajesh from Karnataka reached at 1:11.38 sec and Soubrity Mondal from Bengal reached at 1:12.01 sec.
Rayna Saldahna secured the first silver for Maharashtra in the 200m Freestyle Girls Group I just behind Damini Gowda of KArnataka by one hundredth of a second. Damini won the gold with a time of 2:10.01 sec while Rayna clocked 2:10.11 sec. Shraddha Sudhir secured bronze with a time of 2:17.73 sec.
It was Damini vs Rayna again in the Anchor leg but Team Karnataka represented by Damini Gowda, Preksha H M, Shraddha Sudhir and Harshitha with a time of 4:10.14 J pipped Team Maharashtra represented by Rayna Saldhana, Sadhvi dhuri, Yuga Birname and Mitali Darda who clocked 4:11.05 sec.
The Boys’ 4X100m Freestyle (Group I) witnessed team Maharashtra taking home the Gold beating team Karnataka and Team Gujarat.
Other winners from Maharashtra were Rudhransh Mishra and Atharva Deshmukh who won Bronze.
