IBSF World Billiards to commence from Sept 20

snookerNew Delhi: Coming Sunday (September 20), the 2015 IBSF World Billiards championship will start in the South Australia’s Coastal Capital, Adelaide. The first event will be the 150Up and will run from 20th to 23rd September. This will be followed by the Open Timed event running from 24th to 27th September with a Women’s, and U21 Championship also being played 25 to 27th September.

The preparations at the newly created "Oceania Snooker Academy" which is also the home of the Billiards & Snooker Association of SA have already gained momentum and everything is on time as we near the start of the Championships. The venue has been equipped with 12 brand new Shender tables and this will be the inaugural event to be hosted there, but with many more for the future.

The closing date for entries has already passed with a phenomenal response and the participants have now expected to reach Adelaide before Saturday to take part in this mega event. With over 47 entries received for the 150Up and Timed events from 10 countries this all goes well for the growth of Billiards in the future. It was little disappointing that there were a few countries that could not get their visas in the short time frame otherwise the number of countries participating could well have been 16 which is a very impressive number for the Billiards fraternity

The Referees meeting will take place on 19th September at 1700 hours (5:00 PM) at the venue. The same will be followed by Players Meeting at 1730 hours (5:30 PM). Matches will commence at 10am on the 20th September and we will play 3 sessions that day, due to the large number of entries and the reduced time frame to complete the Championships. The Opening Ceremony will be held at the Sage Hotel at 6.30pm on the 20th September.

For the championship, Adam Wyard is appointed as Tournament Director and will also act as the Head Referee for the Championships. Dariusz Goral (Live Scoring), Dan Lynch the (Live Streaming) and Vivek Pathak (Media Officer).
