Kolkata: The top seed, Ishpreet Chadha of Maharashtra, reached the final of Sub-Junior Billiards discipline of nationals. Today in BRC-Gloster National Billiards and Snooker Championship here at Bengal Rowing Club, Kolkata, he defeated Hritik Jain of Maharashtra by 79 points to step into final.
In the semi final match, Ishpreet was trailing by nearly 40 points against Hritik Jain of Madhya Pradesh but set himself for a high break and produced 96 points break to recover and maintain decent lead.
However, Hritik once againt tried to overcome the pressure and brought down his trail to 30 points but Ishpreet did not give him much chances and sealed the one hour duration match by 79 points (296-271).
Ishpreet will meet Tamil Nadu player, S. Shrikrishna, who defeated Suraj Rathi of Maharashtra 334-198 to confirm his berth for the final. Suraj had chances at few occasions, but he failed to get into right position and every time he missed, Shrikrishna utilized the chance and kept increasing his lead in gradual manner to enter in the final.
The final will be played tomorrow (5th January) at 3:00 PM.
Earlier today, Hritik Jain had easy win in his last-16 and quarter-final matches. He defeated Kewal Mahadeshwar of Maharashtra 371-61 (in Last-16) and Johnson Narsidani of Gujarat 166-78 (in quarter finals).
Identically, Shrikrishna also won his earlier matches by good victory margin. In last-16, he defeated Rohit Yadav of Assam 369-100 and Kreishh Gurbaxani (Maharahstra) 394-189 in quarter finals.
The last-16 match between Johnson Narsidani and Kaavya Bharath was very close where Johnson registered 7 points win in one hour match.
Sub-Junior Snooker
The prelim round of Sub-Junior Snooker matches also started today. There was no major upset but the match between Rishabh Gulati (Delhi) and Nikesh Ranjan (Bihar) falls into decider that Rishabh won on pink ball game.
