Pune: Reigning National champion CS Santosh drove majestically to take the thunder out of his teammate Aravind KP to win the Foreign Open class in the fifth and final round of the MRF National Supercross championship at the Amanora Park Town in Hadapsar on Saturday.
Winning both the races, Santosh garnered full 40 points, while the championship leader Aravind was made to settle for 32, but that was enough for the TVS Racing rider to clinch the overall championship with 178 points from five starts.
Santosh, who missed the first two legs in Bangalore and Coimbatore legs, had scored maximum in Chandigarh, but the points he missed in early part were too much to overhaul. Santosh ended with 117 points.
Riding on TVS RTR 250, both Santosh and Aravind kept up to the task and made sure their team took all three places on the podium. HK Pradeep, who finished with 163 points for overall runner-up position, was the other TVS rider on the podium in Foreign Experts class.
While Santosh bowed out on a high, he was awarded the Rider of the Day for remaining unconquered in both motos in his class.
Aravind though was untouchable in the Indian Experts (B) class on his TVS RTR 160 as he won ahead of Pradeep to take 20 points that took his total of 135 from 5 starts. Pradeep with 122 points took the runner-up position overall.
Aravind thus emerged National champion in two classes to sign off 2011 on a high.
In the Novice class, Adnan Ahmed, also of TVS Racing, beat R Murthy of Bangalore, in a tight finish for the championship. Murthy was on 32 while Adnan on 31 before the start of Pune leg, but the TVS rider stole the title with his top finish and 20 points riding on TVS RTR 160. Murthy came in second with 17 to take his tally to 49..
