New Delhi: 17-year-old Dylan Pereira, guest driver from Luxembourg, clinched victory in a thrilling race on day 2 of Volkswagen Polo R Cup. Dylan got a great start and was amongst the top 3 racers from the beginning of the race and gained the lead position on the 7th lap. From then, he held his position for the last two laps to climb the top spot on the podium.
Behind Dylan was Karminder Singh Pal driving steadily and making good of every opportunity that came his way to climb up to the second spot in the end. Pole-setter Karthik Tharani was in command of the race till 6th lap. However, an incident on the last corner of fourth lap brought out the Safety Car. Soon after, the pack of drivers was closely placed. On first corner, a mis-shift forced Karthik back into the sixth spot. From there onwards, he battled his way up to finish ultimately in the third place.
Winner of Race 1 and 2 yesterday, Lee Keshav and one of the top performers of the season Angad Singh Matharoo were unfortunately out in the initial laps.
Commenting on the win, Dylan Pereira said, “India was an amazing experience and I am happy to have raced against such talented bunch of drivers here. I had gauged the level of competition yesterday and was determined to give in my best today. The idea was to be amongst top 3 and then make use of every possible opportunity. On the 7th lap, I got a chance to overtake Karthik and took the lead. I am very happy with my performance today and I take back home a lot of learning.”
Sirish Vissa, Head of Volkswagen Motorsport India said, “As expected, day 2 was full of action. Boys raced like seasoned drivers and displayed proficiency and maturity on the race track and put up a great show in front of thousands of spectators who turned up today.
