New Delhi: The 11th Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm 2013, one of the highly anticipated rallies was flagged off from the Brand Center of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, amidst excitement and fanfare. Over 275 participants were flagged off by Mayank Pareek, COO (Marketing and Sales) Maruti Suzuki. The participants headed to Sardarshahar, where the first leg of the long and exciting journey will being from midnight.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayank Pareek, COO (Marketing & Sales), Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “Each year, we begin our Motorsport calendar with Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm rally. The past ten years of Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm has seen unprecedented glory. This year too, we hope to bring forth the same level of experience and much more. After the success of the night rallying last year this year we have added an additional night stage. Making it tougher and challenging for the participants.”
Unlike last year the rally this year will start and culminate in the royal state of Rajasthan, covering a total distance of 2200 kms. The rally will traverse through the tough and undulating, yet some of the most scenic and picturesque areas of Rajasthan. These include Bikaner, Chattargarh, Jaisalmer, Pokharn Gajnaur, Lakshmangarh, etc. The rally will culminate at Jaipur on 23rd Feb 2013. The transport section has been reduced and the competitive distance increased. The participants will have greater challenges to counter.
The rally has been spread across four categories- Xtreme, Motosquad, Ndure and Xplore. The rally follows the TSD (Time, Speed and Distance) model and it is open to all cars of any make and model.
This year the rally will see over 275 motoring enthusiasts participate in four wheeler, two wheeler and motoquad categories. This includes couples, all women team, father-son duo and enthusiastic elderly driver navigator teams. Some participants hail from smaller cities like Indore, Jodhpur, Shimla, Nagpur, etc.
For over a decade now, Maruti Suzuki has been hosting a variety of challenging motorsport events. Maruti Suzuki Raid-de-Himalayas and Dakshin Dare are already very popular and highly anticipated amongst auto aficionados. Such initiatives have wider mass appeal and the ability to reach out to motorsports lovers across the country.
Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm is being organized in partnership with Northern Motorsport for the 10th year in the running. Northern Motorsport is one of the leading motorsport organizations of India. It organizes a series of challenging motorsport events including the Maruti Suzuki Autocross, the Rally of the North, etc
