Austin: Outgoing McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton won the United States Grand Prix held at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas pushing the championship between Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull and Ferari’s Fernanado Alonso who finished second and third respectively to the wire.
The 27 year old Briton who started second on the grid alongside double defending champion Vettel, trailed him till the 42nd lap before passing him due to superior speed.
For the 24 year old German he could have clinched his third straight driver’s championship with a win at the US GP, but the final standings will now be decided at the season ending Brazilian Grand Prix. But then his second place was enough to earn Red Bull at third straight constructer’s championship.
Vettel leads the driver’s championship with 273 points while Alonso trails him by 13 points. Alonso who started seventh on the grid finished third thanks to his team’s decision after his team decided to break gearbox seal on Massa’s car which saw the Brazilian finish fourth behind his teammate.
Hamilton’s teammate Jenson Button finished fifth with Kimi Raikonnen and Romain Grosjean of Lotus finishing sixth and seventh respectively.
Nico Hulkenburg of Sahara Force India finished eighth, while Pastor Maldonado and Bruno Senna of Williams finished ninth and 10th.
Paul di Resta in another Force India car finished 14th, while lone Indian driver Narain Karthikeyan of HRT finished 22nd.
