Chennai: The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) Rally Commission has announced some new additions to the 2012 Rally Championship. There will be now three categories running alongside a new championship promoter for the 2012 Championship. It is slated to kick off in June 2012 with the proposed dates and venues of the calendar to be finalised by March 24.
The 2012 Rally Championship will consist of the following:
- IRC (Indian Rally Championship) - Homologated FIA N & N4 cars up to 2000 cc. International zone drivers are now eligible to take part in addition to the Indian ones.
- INRC (Indian National Rally Championship) - Group N 1601-2000cc, 2wd homologated cars only.
- JINRC (Junior Indian National Rally Championship) - For drivers below 27 years of age as on 01/06/2012 - Group N up to 1600cc, 2wd homologated cars only.
- Indian Drivers need to be registered with the FMSCI to be eligible for Overall and Class Championships.
- The highest placed Indian driver in the Overall Championship standings will be crowned the Indian National Rally Championship 2012
President of the FMSCI, Vicky Chandhok said that, While we are obviously happy with the FMSCI getting a new rally promoter as soon as the old contract expired, we have to ensure that all the organisers of the championship events also raise the bar substantially bearing in mind that it is only better events that will attract increased participation."
