New Delhi: The Delhi Amateur Wushu Association commenced its popular 14th Delhi State Wushu Championship today at Talkatora Indoor Stadium. This two-day long annual tournament was inaugurated by Chief Guest, Shri. R.P. Singh, IPS, Additional Director General, CRPF and was graced by the Guest of Honour, Mr. Zhang Zhihong, Counsellor, Culture Chinese Embassy.
Running successfully for over a decade now, this year the Delhi State Wushu Championship is expected to witness around 600 Wushu players representing over twenty-five teams from various clubs and departments of Delhi including CRPF, ITBP, SSB, Air Force, STC Delhi and Delhi Wushu Academy.
Congratulating the team of Delhi Amateur Wushu Association on their tremendous effort to organise the event, Shri R.P. Singh, IPS, Additional Director General, CRPF said, “It is an honour for me to be present at the 14th Delhi State Wushu Championship and I congratulate the Delhi Wushu Association for playing a pivotal role in promoting the sport in India. It is heartening to see the enthusiasm and dedication of the players and our efforts should be in supporting the players in their future endeavours”.
Also, Mr. Zhang Zhihong, Counsellor, Culture Chinese Embassy appreciated the efforts of Dr. Prabhat Kumar and Delhi Amateur Wushu Association in spreading awareness about Wushu as a sport and encouraged all participants for the tournament. He also committed that the Chinese Embassy, Cultural Department will support Wushu as priority sport.
The Delhi Wushu State Championship was started in the year 2001 and gained momentum and popularity under the able guidance of Dr. Prabhat Kumar (IAS), President, Delhi Amateur Wushu Association. Over the last few years, the championship has seen growing participation of women players and the Delhi Amateur Wushu Association supports them in a big way through training and providing opportunities to play tournaments.
Dr. Prabhat Kumar, President, Delhi Amateur Wushu Association welcomed all players and coaches to the tournament and appreciated the support provided by NDMC and Delhi Government for promotion of Wushu Sports In Delhi.
