 Taking the high road with legendary Bachendri PalNew Delhi: In her endeavour to encourage thrill and adventure among the tribals, Bachendri Pal, a nationally honored expedition leader and Chief Adventure Programmes at Tata Steel Ltd has trained three youths from Jharkhand, out of which two are tribals, for the ultimate challenge – climbing the Mt Everest. She was present in the capital on Wednesday to announce this initiative by Tata Steel to empower people through adventure sports.

The project falls under Tata Steel Adventure Foundation that is headed by Bachendri Pal. Tata Steel has sanctioned 50 lakhs for the Mount Everest expedition. Mr Sanjiv Paul, Vice President, Corporate Services Tata Steel said, “Tata Steel believes that pushing people to their limits can make then indestructible leaders. As another step towards this direction, TSAF is sponsoring the participation of three tribals. Our main objective is to induct people from all walks of life to the thrills and wonders of adventure sports, thereby developing a healthy rapport with environment and nature.”


Bachendri Pal, the legendary climber has trained three people from Jharkhand who will start their saga of thrilling adventure and excitement by climbing Mount Everest.  The youths participating are Rajendra Singh Pal , Meghlal Mahato  and Binita Soren are participating.  They all have prior mountaineering experience and are ace mountaineers themselves. Rajendra Singh Pal has climbed Mt Rudugaira 19100 ft in 1995 1995 and is a Leader & Summiter Mt Sudarshan (21346 ft) in 2000. He is also a member of Millennium Indian Everest Expedition (East Ridge) 2001. Meghlal Mahato climbed Mt Stok Kangri 20305 ft in 2009 and Mt Saser Kangri 24331 ft in 2011 respectively.  Binita Soren was a member of Indian Women’s First Thar Desert Expedition  across International Border – from Bhuj in Gujarat to Wagah in Punjab – a Camel Safari  across Gujarat-Rajasthan-Punjab covering over 2000 km in 30 day, recognized by Limca Book of Record

All three candidates have been given the basic and Advance Mountaineering Courses at recognized National Mountaineering Institutes. They have also been given exposure in Tata Steel Adventure Foundation programmes conducted in Himalaya from time to time to understand about Leadership Development conducted for various groups and to provide them the opportunity for mountain fitness.

Bachendri Pal will also go to Kathmandu to oversee the arrangements for the three candidates participating in the Everest expedition and then to trek with them halfway to Everest base camp to see them off.
