Patna: In one of the biggest upset of the season, Dabang Delhi KC hammered defending champions Patna Pirates 33-15. Looking for their sixth consecutive win of the season, Patna Pirates were brought crashing down to earth as Dabang Delhi KC put in a solid all-round performance to notch their second win of the season.
Patna Pirates are now in second positionwith 25 points from six gamesbut the manner of the defeat would be a matter of concern. Dabang Delhi KC remain seventh with 14 points from seven games.
Dabang Delhi KC began strongly as they led 4-1 after four minutes and sent the danger man Pardeep Narwal to the bench. Meraj Sheykh and Sachin Shingadegto two tackle points apiece in Delhi’s strong start. But Abolfazel scored two points with a do-or-die raid as Patna Pirates trailed 3-5 after seven minutes. Dabang Delhi KC defence continued their good work in the first half as they led 7-5 after 10 minutes.
With star raider Pardeep Narwal stranded on the bench, Patna Pirates struggled to impose themselves on the game. Dabang Delhi KC restricted their raiders to just three points in the first half. Dabang Delhi KC led 11-7 at the end of the first half as their defence was on top of their game.
It was a slow start from both teams in the second half as Delhi looked to protect their lead and led 13-8 after 25 minutes. Dabang Delhi KC inflicted the first all out in 26th minute as they lead 17-8. Pardeep Narwal came on the mat and scored his second raid point but Dabang Delhi KC defence were strong as they opened a ten-point lead in 27th minute. Dabang Delhi KC then forced another all out in 31st minute as they led 26-9. Patna Pirates were completely outclassed as Dabang Delhi KC piled on the pressure and opened a 20-point lead with less than five minutes to go.
Pardeep Narwal had just three points for Patna Pirates whereas Rajesh Mondal failed to open his account. For DabangDelhi KC, MerajSheykh scored six and marshaled his defence superbly to script one of the biggest upset of season four of Pro Kabaddi League. Patna Pirates recorded their lowest ever score in the history of Pro Kabaddi League. But it was all about Dabang Delhi KC as they recorded a famous victory.
