Pune: Bengaluru Beast made a brilliant comeback after trailing Delhi Capitals throughout the first half to score their first win of the UBA Pro Basketball League Season-3 on Sunday evening. Khushmeet Singh’s 24 points and Visu Palani’s 19 points were the highlights of the Bengaluru team’s 97-90 win.
It was a remarkable effort from Bengaluru Beast despite losing three important players who were fouled out of the game.
Sunday's game was the second successive loss for the Delhi Capitals, having lost to Punjab Steelers in their season opener.
Delhi Capitals started a lot better as compared to their first game of the season. Delhi seemed to have the better rhythm, taking the lead till half time.
The likes of Vinay Kaushik and Smithin scored early keeping Delhi ahead. Sunil converted two free throws and followed it up with a field goal to take Delhi to a convincing 32-24 lead by the end of first quarter. Kaif Zia and Hrishikesh Naidu were the men in form for Bengaluru Beast, as Loveneet Singh spent lot of time on the bench, having committed three fouls.
The Delhi Capitals continued their dominance in the second quarter with some superb team-work. But just as Delhi lead began to look a bit too big, Bengaluru found their scoring form through Khushmeet Singh. Singh scored some quick points, and made decisive runs through a solid looking Delhi defense. A brilliant three-pointer from Raghuram in the last few seconds allowed Bengaluru to reduce the deficit, as Delhi went into half time leading 51-47.
Bengaluru Beast upped the ante in the third quarter, and were soon able to turn the tide. Both Khushmeet Singh, and Visu Palani came up with perfectly delivered three-pointers to push the Bengaluru boys ahead. Khushmeet, in particular, was spectacular with his timing and wrist work, striking a couple of three-pointers in quick succession.
Delhi answered with Vinay Kaushik and Sunil, but it was Bengaluru Beast who finished with a four-point lead (76-72) going into the final quarter.
Kaif Zia and Hrishikesh Naidu supported Khushmeet well, with the latter scoring his fourth three-pointer of the day in the final quarter. Bengaluru lost Naidu, Kaif and Loveneet, the trio having fouled out of the game. But the other Bengaluru team members made up for it with some disciplined play to score their first win of the season.
