Rio de Janeiro: He came, he saw and he conquered. Usain Bolt created history by becoming the first person to win the 100m sprint in three consecutive Olympics as he eased past others to win the gold medal with a time of 9.81 seconds at Rio de Janeiro on Sunday.
American Justin Gatlin finished .08 seconds behind for silver and Canada’s Andre de Grasse .1 seconds back of Bolt for bronze.
The win took the sprinter a step closer to his goal of defending his combination of gold in the 100m, 200m and the 4x100m relay from London 2012.
His win, meanwhile, created a flutter on social media. This is how the twitteratis reacted to his record win:
The bestest ever. He does it again. What a legend. There has been no one better than him. Take a bow @usainbolt ???? pic.twitter.com/sCMsdhxK59
