Devendra Jhajharia to be awarded with Padma Shri

Devendra Jhajharia to be awarded with Padma Shri New Delhi: Devendra Jhajharia India's only gold medallist at the Paralympics will be awarded Padma Awards, the country’s highest civilian awards.

He is a one-armed javelin thrower from Rajasthan. He won gold medal in the javelin throw at the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens. Devender was the first Indian athlete to win an individual Gold medal in the history of Paralympics with a new World record of 62.15m in Javelin Throw which still stands unbroken as on date. He set up a new world record with 62.15m eclipsing the old one of 59.77m.
He also won the gold medal in the 8th FESPIC Games in Korea, 2002. He is trained by Dronacharya Awardee coach Mr. R.D. Singh who found Devendra Jhajharia in school competition in 1997. He hails from Churu District in Rajasthan.

Paralympics Committee of India will honour Mr. Devendra. Mr. Devendra will share his success story with Media tomorrow on March 23rd 2012 at 15:30 hrs at Board Room, Constitution Club, Rafi Marg, New Delhi.
