DSK Shivajians ‘D’ beat Fatima XI ‘B’ 4-2; earn maiden semis berth

DSK Shivajians DPune: Spirited DSK Shivajians ‘D’ held their nerves before overcoming Fatima XI ‘B’ 4-2 in the tie-breaker after playing out a goalless draw in regulation time and book a place in the semi-finals of Major K.P. Jadhav Memorial Football Tournament.

The win was memorable as it was the first time that DSK Shivajians ‘D’ entered a semifinal.

The hero for DSK Shivajians ‘D’, comprising of players from LFC-DSK Academy, was ’keeper Lakshya Ranwan who saved two penalties, at the PDFA ground, Dombarwadi on Tuesday.

Having played out a goalless draw in regulation time, DSK Shivajians ‘D’ had Ishaan Sahi, Shankul Patil, Joston Cardoz and skipper Ankush Pradhan gain success from the spot.

DSK Shivajians ‘D’ kicked off proceedings with their backs to the wall as Fatima XI ‘B’ took the fight to their half creating quite a few chances of their own. DSK Shivajians ‘D’ were lucky to hold fort and ended a very forgetful first half 0-0.

On resumption, DSK Shivajians ‘D’ shifted gears and looked threatening. The induction of Ishaan Sahi, goal-scorer from previous match, made a huge impact. The change helped DSK Shivajians ‘D’ as they started utilizing the width of the pitch and whipping in crosses. They however fell short on attacking options and the match ended goalless.

In the tie-breaker, Ishaan, who stepped up first for DSK Shivajians ‘D’, converted with ease. The second penalty kick taken by Faizaan had the opponents ’keeper effect a save. Thereafter, DSK Shivajians ‘D’ converted all three with ease, while custodian Lakshya made two fantastic saves to deny Fatima XI ‘B’ a win.
