Pune: DSK Shivajians ‘D’ had an easy day out downing KP XI 3-0 in their opening fixture of Major K. P. Jadhav Memorial Football Tournament, at the PDFA ground Dombarwadi, on Wednesday.

A goal each by Manish Gaikwad (18th minute), Shankul Patil (45’) and Ruchir Goswami (49’) was enough to seal the match in favor of the team comprising of LFC-DSK Academy players.

DSK Shivajians ‘D’ began proceedings tentatively, but soon found their rhythm and began to attack and also create a few chances. Their best came in the tenth minute when Ruchir’s try went just wide of the target.

The deadlock was broken in the eighteenth minute of play. Ankush Pradhan, DSK Shivajians D’s holding midfielder played an intelligent through ball towards Manish Gaikwad, who obliged by neatly putting the ball into the net.

Thereafter, DSK Shivajians ‘D’ took control, dominated before ending the first-half with a 1-0 lead.

On resumption, DSK Shivajians ‘D’ dominated and looked purposeful in their raids which raised hopes of increasing the lead. Finally, in the 45th minute, Shivam Chopra’s shy on goal paved way for the second goal. His shot deflected off the post and fell in the path of Shankul Patil, who made the most of the opportunity.

The third goal was scored by forward Ruchir, which again was off a rebound. Only this time it hit the far post and Ruchir was on hand to put it away.
