Patiala in driver’s seat against Amritsar in Katoch Shield

Patiala: Patiala were 266 for 3 in 87.3 overs against Amritsar on Day One of the Katoch Shield at Dhruv Pandove Stadium here on Wednesday.
Patiala opened with Kunwar Raina and Prabhjot Singh and the duo added 98 runs for the first wicket in 34.2 overs before Prabhjot Singh was run out by Rohit Kumar after making a sedate half century (50) off 97 balls inclusive of 7 boundaries.

After Ravi Inder Singh joined Kunwar Raina and the two put on 132 runs for the second wicket before Kunwar Raina was caught and bowled by Rohit Kumar for a well made 89 off 218 balls with 9 boundaries.

Another fruitful partnership between Ravi Inder Singh and Himanshu Chawla yielded 66 runs for the 4th wicket before Himanshu Chawla was cleaned up by left arm spinner Vinay Chaudhary for 47 off 48 balls inclusive of 6 rousing boundaries. Ravi Inder Singh was going strong on 75 off 157 balls and keeping him company was Amitoze Singh who has yet open his account.

For Amritsar Vinay Chaudhary 1 for 43 and Rohit Kumar 1 for 91 shared the spoils.

In the second match played at FC Sondhi Ground, Jalandhar, Ludhiana winning the toss and electing to bat against Jalandhar made a disastrous start losing their opener Vaibhav Narang trapped in front by medium pacer Tejinder Singh for (0) and one drop southpaw Karan Goel became Tejinder’s next victim being snapped by wicket keeper Abhishek without troubling the scorers and reducing Ludhiana to 0 for 2.

Thereafter Sunny Pandey and Kashish got their act together to put on 64 runs for the 3rd wicket before Kashish was caught by Abhishek off Raghu for 39 off 65 balls inclusive of 5 boundaries. Gitansh Khera and Sunny Pandey put on 72 runs for the 4th wicket before Sunny Pandey was caught by Love Kumar off Raghu after making a resolute 53 off 95 balls inclusive of 6 boundaries. Gitansh Khera made his exit being caught by Subek Gill off Raghu for 55 off 76 balls inclusive of 8 boundaries. Thereafter Nikhil Chaudhary blasted 76 off just 56 balls inclusive of 12 boundaries and one six before being caught by Abhishek off Keshav. Ludhiana at close of first days play were 243 for 8 in 54.5 overs. Raghu 5 for 66 and Tejinder Singh 2 for 54. The match could not resume after 2.45 pm because of heavy shower

PUNJAB BEAT SAURASHTRA BY 2 WICKET IN LATE SH.J.Y. LELE TOURNAMENT

Punjab continued their winning streak in the ongoing J.Y. Lele Tournament being played at Baroda as they humbled Saurashtra by 2 wickets in their 2nd league match of the tournament. Saurashtra winning the toss and opting to bat first were restricted to 206 for 7 by Punjab Under-19. Mehul Chauhan 37, Nikeet Joshin unbeaten 62, Jyotil Prohit 26 and Kevin 25 were the main run getters for Saurashtra. For Punjab right arm leg spinner Mayank Markande 3 for 26, Abhinav Sharma 1 for 43 and Jagjit singh 1 for 42 were the main wicket takers for Punjab.

Replying Punjab were in deep trouble as they lost 4 quick wickets in the shape of Mansab Gill 6, Subek Gill 9, Pradeep Yadav 7 and Bhagmender 01 before Anmolpreet Singh 59 and Ramandeep Singh unbeaten 82 turned the tied in favour of Punjab. Punjab scored 210 for 8 in 45 overs to rompt home victors by 2 wickets to garner 4 points and take the tally to 8 with straight wins. Dilwag 3 for 25 Prabhu 2 for 32 and Parath Bhut 2 for 38 were themain wicket takers for Saurashtra. Punjab will play their 3rd league match of Group A against Karnataka.
