Sparkling ton by Gaurav Puri in Punjab Inter-District U-22 tournament

Chandiharh/Amritsar: Resuming at overnight total of 126 for 2 in 51 overs, Chandigarh lost their third wicket when Naveen Dhiman was caught by Sharma of left arm spinner Yogesh for 25 off 49 balls. In company of Veer Karan Goyal, Naveen Dhiman had put on 50 runs for the third wicket. Veer Karan Goyal also left soon after when he was snapped by Mandeep Singh off Pargat for 68 off 208 balls. At this stage Simranpreet Singh and Gaurav Puri got together and added 113 runs for the fifth wicket before Simranpreet Singh was caught by Himanshu off Yogesh for a well made 51 off 149 balls. 

Chandigarh at this stage were 285 for 5 in 106.3 overs. Gaurav Puri who had been batting very sensibly was joined by skipper Gurinder Singh and the duo went on to clobber 88 runs for the 6th wicket in 12.2 overs before Gaurav Puri was caught by Yogesh off Raghu after hitting a brilliant century (112) off 152 balls inclusive of
15 well executed boundaries to all parts of the Ground and 2 towering sixes.

Gaurav Puri’s dismissal triggered a collapse and Chandigarh from a healthy score of 373 for 6 in 118.5 overs were bowled out for 413 in 128.1 overs. Left arm spinner Yogesh Kumar 4 for 122 and Raghu 3 for 122 were the main wicket takers for Jalandhar.

Jalandhar was set a target of 379 for an outright win and were sitting on 58 for one in 15 overs at close of third day’s play.  Nitish 28 and Love Kumar  21 were at the crease. A.Bharti  1 for 22 was the lone successful bowler for Chandigarh.

In the second match being played at Gandhi Grounds Amritsar, Amritsar resuming at overnight score of 13 for 2 in 9 overs were bundled out for 204 in 69.5 overs.  Amritsar lost their first five wickets for 28 in 15.3 overs. The main damage was done by medium pacer Robin Dhillon and his partner Beant Singh who accounted for all the five dismissals. 

Skipper Aman Bawa played a lone hand by smashing an unbeaten 87 off 144 balls spiced up with 11 sparkling boundaries. He was involved in a 59 runs 6th wicket stand with Arush Sabbarwal (30).

In the 3rd match being played at PAU Ludhiana, Ludhiana chasing Mohali’s first innings total of 414 were 369 for 7 in 140 overs at close of third day’s play.
