New Delhi: DAV College, Jalandhar defeated Municipal College, Rourkela 5-1 in the first semi final of the 19th SAIL Nehru Champion Colleges Hockey Tournament at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium here.
DAV College started the match well by scoring the opening goal in only the 10th minute of the match. Mohit Singh Thakur doubled the lead by scoring his second goal of the match in the 19th minute. DAV College scored again in the 23rd minute to put the score line well past Municipal College’s reach. The half-time ended at DAV leading 3 goals to nil.
After the change of ends DAV College found the plank for the fourth time in the 55th minute and again scored in the last minute of the match. In between these goals the team from Rourkela scored their consolation goal in the 59thminute.
For DAV it was Manjinder and Mohit who scored two goals each.
DAV College will now face Al-Ameen, Bangalore who defeated CRA College, Sonepat in a tense semi final. The match went down to the tie-breaker where Al-Ameen won 7-5.
