Ravindra Jadeja: Can he be the next bowling all-rounder for Dhoni?

ravidra-jadeja-all-rounderAs a batsman his strength is his ability to work on the gaps rather than to bludgeon the bowlers for big hits. However off late, Ravindra Jadeja has been reasonably consistent even when batting in difficult lower-middle-order slots in ODIs. To it, his left-arm spin is a reliable option for the captain to go with, especially in sub-continental conditions, while his speed and safe catching abilities make him a huge asset anywhere in the field.

Ravindra Jadeja, who has climbed up to the No. 5 spot in ICC rankings with 333 ODI rating points in list of all-rounders, has progressed a lot even in bowling department and is currently standing at No. 8 spot in list of top ICC bowlers.

Jadeja made his Test debut against England and impressed everyone with his bowling. Ex-cricketers like Sanjay Manjrekar was very pleased with his performance and said “Jadeja can be more than handy on rank-turner pitches like Chennai and Kochi which will suit his bowling style.”

Jadeja’s accuracy with line and length makes him a very tough bowler to play, especially on turning pitches and apart from that his confidence is something which makes him stand apart from other bowlers. He can not only bowl tight in middle overs with field restrictions but also during the death overs. This is why Dhoni has so much of faith on his ability.

Dhoni even said, “He can be a bowling all-rounder if he can improve his batting ability and it would be an asset for the team.”
Ravindra Jadeja’s consistency with ball had earned him a slot in the Indian team and if he continues to do well, then he can be given more chances in Test matches where the No. 6 slot is still up for grabs.

Apart from bowling and batting, he is also a very good fielder. His effort to save runs and to take some breath-taking catches makes him one of the best fielders in Indian dressing team. He was looked as an average cricketer before this Ranji season but his three triple centuries this season along with 20 wickets with an economy of 2.33 and with an average of 20.91 has catapulted him into a bigger league.

Ravindra Jadeja, who was not so impressive in last few years, has come a long way and proved his worth with his all-round performances. He has proved that he is the trouble-shooter for the Indian team in the current scenario.
