Australia will start the T20 World Cup as a team that is ranked below Ireland. It is an amazing fact keeping in mind that Australians
were the finalists last time around in West Indies where England defeated them to win the title.
Australian team has always been a commanding unit and they always play well in big tournaments. The Kangaroos will be looking for their first T20 title because that is one title that still eludes them.
In the recent times they have not been in great form in the shorter formats loosing the three matches T20 series against Pakistan was the
latest of the causality. Australia as a team does not fancy spinning condition and it will be a tough task for them. But, the last match
against Pakistan showed that once Australia is on a roll than there is no stopping them.
In the batting department, Australia have one of the most dangerous opening pair in the form of David Warner and Shane Watson. Both
players are genuine match-winners and can achieve any target if they get going. In the middle-order they have the experience of the Hussey
Brothers. Both players are good against spin bowling and will be key to them. Then they have their captain George Bailey who is a good
hitter of the ball. For the closing over they have Cameron White who did brilliantly in the last T20 World Cup and Daniel Christian who can play a breath-taking innings.|
In the bowling department Australia will be banking on their young pace bowlers because they lack a quality spinner in their side. Both
Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc did really well in UAE recently and the Australian team will be hoping something similar from them. Then they
have the likes of Watson and Christian who can bowl very well in the middle overs. In the spin bowling department they have the experience
of Brad Hog, but he has found it difficult to replicate his club form in international matches. They also have Xavier Doherty but how many
matches he will get to play is the real question.
Overall, Australia’s best chance lies when their openers get them to a terrific start or things might get difficult for them.
