Transition of Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson to Jose Mourinho

Wayne Rooney Zlatan IbramovicThe Club had seen 26 years of unparalleled success under one of the best managers the sport had to offer, Sir Alex Ferguson, who lead the club to 38 trophies, including 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cups and two UEFA Champions League titles. The aftermath of his retirement was something the Manchester United fans were not prepared for. Life under David Moyes was rather lacklustre. Appointment of Louis Van Gaal ignited some hope amongst the fans as he was a proven winner. But the world knows, the Premier League is no walk in the park, so it was for the new manager.

Man United under Van Gaal were criticised for their style of play and were labelled as boring. He was thereafter sacked in the second year of his tenure with Ryan Giggs replacing him as interim manager. The world was eager to know who the next manager would be, and portraying how big a club they are, Manchester United announced the appointment of Jose Mourinho.

The world of football is well familiar with the name of Jose Mourinho. Some love him for his winning mentality, while some hate him because he can simply be annoying. But he knew this is no ordinary club, this is the most successful club in England. The statement of intent was further emphasised upon when the four new signings were unveiled, with a cracking 89 million Paul Pogba.
While Van Gaal was all about the possession game, the latest game versus Liverpool showed that even without possession, United were able to stop a very strong Liverpool attack. Some highlights of Mourinho’s tenure till now have been that he is not afraid to drop big players, like the case of Wayne Rooney. He certainly trusts his players and gives them more freedom. His style of play gives the fan something to look forward to every week. His squad knows his attitude towards the game is all about winning.

David De Gea was quoted this week: "With every manager it's different things, now we have Jose Mourinho. He is a top manager with a strong character, he's a winner. He brings his character, his passion for football and tactical things. He brings good players too and now it is time to show the world that we are united.

Ander Herrera who has seen his form touch the sky recently said “Mourinho encourages me to do it. Mourinho gives you more freedom as a player, He wants the player’s instinct to come through… he tells us to let that if that instinct guides us on the pitch then we should try things.”

With the performances getting better every week, there is no doubt that this United team under Jose can challenge for silverware.
