Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola, two of the greatest coaching masterminds, are set to renew their rivalry in the Premier League next season. Manchester will be the home for the two managers, as Mourinho is set to manage Red Devils while Pep has been named the coach of Manchester City. The friends who became foes hold a bitter rivalry off the pitch as well.
The two have always been seen as the majestic managers who can change the tide of the game by bringing in their super subs and who have the power to encourage the players to play at any wanted positions.
Both managers have worked together from 1996-2000 when Mourinho coached Barca and Pep was a player. The first encounter between the two as managers came way back in 2010 when Pep’s barca took Mourinho’s Inter Milan. They faced each other four times with Pep’s Barca winning twice, one match ending in a draw and one win under Mourinho’s belt. The two managers previously coached the giants Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively and Pep always outshone the special one. Having played eleven times against each other Pep outclassed Mourinho with five wins to two and four matches ending in a draw. Now it'll be exciting to see who wins the battle of wits.
The first challenge for both the managers will be to win their opening games and mark their contender ship for the title. Manu play Bournemouth away on the opening day while city takes on Sunderland. Both managers lock horns on Sept 10 in the first Manchester derby at old Trafford and the reserved fixture at Etihad on 25th Feb. It will be interesting to see which Manchester draws the first blood.
